Musical Director for Auchterarder Parish Church
We are looking to recruit a new and enthusiastic Musical Director. As a congregation, we like the balance of traditional and contemporary worship and are, therefore, looking for someone who is comfortable with a range of styles and with leading, ideally, on both organ and piano and with an understanding of what is necessary to lead a Praise Orchestra successfully.
We are willing to work with anyone interested in shaping how we might provide such musical leadership, given that there are people in the congregation who can play both organ and piano and have choral experience.
We are an inclusive congregation, with a wide age range attending, including children and young people. We are committed to developing the gifts of everyone in our worship and service. We are open to new ideas and styles and are looking for someone to bring their own vision to maintain a freshness and vibrancy in our music and sung worship, including our choral singing. Above all, we are looking for an individual to help us to express our worship of God and, ideally, someone who shares our faith.
Our current Sunday worship service is at 10.00 am. We are equipped with a two-manual Hill, Norman and Beard pipe organ, a Clavinova and a Bluthner Grand Piano and all instruments are well maintained. We have a fully integrated AV system and we stream our services live through our YouTube channel. Please feel free to check out some of our recent services on the website. We also have an enthusiastic choir, that pre Coivd-19, sang at most worship services. Someone else is currently responsible for training and conducting the choir and is willing to continue to do that, either wholly or alongside the successful applicant.
We also have a Praise Orchestra, consisting of around 12 players, which normally plays at weekly services. The Musical Director is responsible for rehearsing the Praise Orchestra. We have someone within the congregation who is currently happy to assist with orchestral arrangements.
The Musical Director is given the first opportunity to play at wedding and funeral services, with no obligation to accept. There are organists on hand to support with this, so that your attendance at any weekday employment would not be compromised.
Remuneration will be based on the Scottish Federation of Organists’ Recommended Salary Scales published on the Church of Scotland Website and the salary placement will be subject to skills and experience.
